A Lookback At 2011

To be honest, I don’t really know where to start. I thought it would be good to do a review of the year like other blogs such as Speedhunters and Drifted. For me, it refreshes the mind of things that may have slipped from memory and it gives you a good look at how 2011 went.

It was October when I first decided to start a blog, and thanks to a guy called Ciaran the name Freshfix was picked. Design is not my strongest point but I worked with what I had. Looking back now I hang my head in shame but it was a starting point. Also a few members decided to help out as you can see above, creative I know.

We did settle for this in the end. Our first batch of stickers were made by our site sponsor TheStickyRings.com

The site was finally up and running and all of a sudden it was time for our first meet. Cars and coffee was held in a friends shop, which turned out to be a great day with a massive mixture of cars.

After that everything just went by so fast. We hit Dubshed which was my first big VW event and I hope to make it back in 2012.

The site was very basic and I had nothing but trouble with servers and bandwidth but thankfully I got a email from a guy called Paul who offered to help out with design and maintained the website for a share of the site itself. Sure, what did I have to lose? April saw the revamp of the website and for me this was the real start of Freshfix.

We later went to go on to be a Sponsor of the ITCC when Paul designed their website.

I found a new love for shooting drifting.

Seeing all the top drivers from Formula D and the BDC on Irish soil was amazing. This has been my favourite event of 2011.

Time Attack was something I never found myself to follow until I started covering the events for the site.

I tried to cover as much as I could on my own. Keeping in touch with cars I wanted to feature and stay on top of college work was really starting to show. Thankfully I got a handful of emails with people offering to help out. This location was my favourite of 2011.

The year flew by. But for me it felt like things just stopped. Sadly I lost my Friends Fergal and Brian in a RTA in August . The picture above is the last picture I got of Fergal a trackday earlier in the year. I’m sure a lot of our followers have lost close friends in accidents. All we can do is slow down and be careful. There two guys I will truly miss big time in everyday life and at motorsport events.

Two weeks after I had arranged with two VW friends to head over to Edition38 in the UK. This was my first time out of Ireland for anything car related. I’m still only getting around to slowly showing you guys my experience.

Looking back now of what I can remember, its being a great start to the journey. We are still only a young website and have a great team of photographers and writers to carry us into 2012. We now have a Classified section, a shop and a wicked looking website. 2012 is going to bring some surprises to our followers and Team with me hitting America to get a taste of what their car culture is like.

Thank you to all of our fans and contributors. I look forward to 2012.
